2008 Oklahoma Outlaws Coaching Staff

#29 Tony Gwinn

The 2008 Outlaw season begins with Coach Tony Gwinn in his second season as the Oklahoma Outlaws’ head coach.  In his first year as the Outlaws head coach, Gwinn guided the Outlaws to a 45-21 overall record and a state runner up in the Majors State Tournament in Bartlesville.  The Outlaws lost their first game of the 2007 state tournament, then came all the way back through the losers bracket before losing to Enid in the championship game.   Before accepting the Outlaw Coaching position, Gwinn served as an assistant baseball coach at Newcastle High School from 1992-1997, and has been an assistant coach at Edmond North High School from 2000 thru 2003, and during the 2007 spring season.  Gwinn spent three years (2003-2006) as an assistant baseball coach at Southern Nazarene University.

Tony has coached American Legion Baseball at Norman in 1993 and 1994 and with the Edmond Stars from 1998-2004.  These teams have won Majors state championships in 1999, 2002, 2004, and were state runner-up in 1993.  Gwinn has also coached three teams that have advanced to the American Legion World Series.  Norman finished third in 1993 and the Edmond Stars finished fifth both in 1999 and 2004.  His legion teams have won three Mid-South Regional Championships and posted a 21-9 record in National Regional and World Series play.

Tony is a 1982 graduate of Newcastle High School. He was selected to the Oklahoma Coaches All-State team as a catcher, and was also the Little All City Player of the Year in 1982.   Upon graduation, he began his collegiate baseball career at Seminole Jr. College and finished at the University of Oklahoma.  He was a 1984 member of the NJCAA World Series Team at Seminole, and was named to the Big 8 All Tournament Team as a catcher while at Oklahoma in 1986, as well as being a member of the 1985 national champion Liberal Bee Jays.

After college, Tony played professional baseball in the New York Yankees’ minor-league system, spending seasons with the Ft. Lauderdale Yankees in the Florida State League (A), the Prince William Yankees in the Carolina League (A), and the Albany Yankees of the Eastern League (AA).  During his time in the minor leagues, Gwinn played for former major-league managers Gene Tenace, Stump Merrill, and Buck Showalter.

Tony and his wife, Valary, currently reside in Del City with their two children, Hannah (age 10) and Sarah (age 8).



# 12 Aaron Garrett

Assistant Coach Aaron Garrett also begins his second year as an Outlaw coach this season.  Aaron is from Bethany, graduating from there in 2000.  While at Bethany High School, Aaron played both basketball and baseball. Aaron attended college in Bethany at Southern Nazarene University, where he was a member of the baseball team from 2000-2004.

Aaron was an outfielder and relief pitcher for the Crimson Storm.  After completing his eligibility, Aaron served as a graduate assistant during the 2005 season.  During this time, he was responsible for working with outfielders, hitters, assisted with recruiting, and also managed the junior varsity team.  In the 2006 American Legion season, Aaron managed the Brassfield legion team in Oklahoma City.  Aaron is currently employed as a teacher at Putnam City West High School in Oklahoma City where he teaches Business and computer applications and coaches basketball.  Aaron and Melissa Powell will be getting married this summer and will reside in Bethany.



# 40 Ron Titus

Coach Ron Titus begins his first season with the Outlaws in 2008.  Ron was born and raised in North Platte, Nebraska, where he developed a great passion for the game of baseball.  Upon graduation, Ron accepted a baseball scholarship to play at then Phillips University in Enid, Oklahoma.  In 1988, he joined the Air Force where he served in Operation Desert Storm as a Computer/Communications Database Manager at McGuire Air Force Base.  In 1990, Titus was recognized as the 21st Headquarters Airman of the Year.

After completing college at the University of Central Oklahoma, Ron received his teaching certificate from the Oklahoma State Department of Education.  Ron accepted a teaching/coaching position at Deer Creek, where he coached seventh-through ninth grade baseball and American Legion Baseball. In 1996 he was named Oklahoma Junior High Coach of the Year after compiling a four year record of 105-58.  

From 2000-2005 Ron worked at Francis Tuttle Vo-Tech as an instructor in  Internet Technology and was as assistant coach with the Edmond Stars, helping them win state championships in 2002 and 2004, as well as a 5th place finish in the 2004 American Legion World Series. Ron is a huge supporter of American Legion Baseball, serving as the Post Adjutant for Post 111 in Edmond in 2003-2004. Ron is currently employed at Crossing Christian School in Oklahoma City.  Ron and his wife Susan have been married for twenty years and have a 5 year old son Eli.
